Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, Friday 8th May 2020

The Poppy is a commemorative tribute to Armistice Day in the form of an original war poem set to music.

The soundtrack for my vintage video, Domine Deus, was taken from Mass For Christmas, premiered at St. Paul’s Church, Chichester, in 2005.

The Latin text to Domine Deus depicts the suffering of Jesu Christ, Lamb of God, which I set as a battle hymn.  The driving timpani & string rhythms, plaintive horn & choral mantra seemed the most appropriate setting for The Poppy:

Domine Deus, rex coelestis, pater omnipotens, Domine Fili unigenite, Jesu Christe, Domine Deus, Angus Dei, Filius Patris

Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty, the only begotten Son, Jesu Christ, Lamb of God, Son of the Father.

A Celebration Of Summer

Thank you to all those who came to support our Summer Charity Concert 2019 & contributed to making it a success.

We were delighted to be a part of this community outreach event & hope that greater awareness has been made of the lifestyle & culture of the gypsy communities & the journey of Crisis in support of the homeless.

Gaudete are an upbeat creative duo who began publicly performing in early 2016 to recreate a variety of musical styles, with an emphasis on original interpretation and entertainment. Gaudete comprises two independent solo artists, Sylvie-D and Joshua Kohlmann.

Sylvie is a collaborative artist in North and West Yorkshire and is currently composing original material for a forthcoming solo album. She is also researching folk music for a contemporary community opera, Takes Two to Tango.

Joshua has written over 100 songs, as a solo artist and in collaboration with others. He is currently collating songs for an illustrated two-volume anthology and is working on a Viking musical, The Saga of King Olaf.

This is Gaudete’s seventh live charity concert since December 2016 & they are now available for hire for events & special occasions. Their debut EP Four Suits is for sale at: sylvie203@acecreatives.co.uk

Autumn Variety Concert 2017

Pair set to perform for charity

GAUDETE, the York duo of writer/singer/performers Sylvie-D and Joshua Kohlmann, will perform in aid of Tearfund at Saturday’s Autumn Variety Concert at All Saints’ Church, Upper Poppleton, York.

Formed in York in 2016, Gaudete have raised more than £2,000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Tearfund, the Ruach Project and Bolton Hospice through their concerts.

This weekend they will present a collection of classical, jazz and crowd pleasers and in addition Sylvie-D will premiere her latest song, ‘Lights In San Francisco’.

Earlier this year, Gaudete recorded their debut EP Four Suits, produced by Will Jackson at Soundworks Studios and now on sale at £10 at Vinyl Eddie, Tadcaster Road, and via: http://acecreatives.co.uk

“It comprises four original pieces that address environmental, social and spiritual themes,” says Sylvie-D. “The first song, Street Gazers, is the start of our musical journey, set in the context of El Piano, the Anglo-Spanish restaurant in Grape Lane where we were first inspired to collaborate.”

Presented by The Poppletones, Saturday’s 7.30pm bill also will feature concert pianist, organist and accompanist Cynthia Wood; composer, singer, guitarist and tuba player John Stuart and a selection of songs by The Poppletones choir themselves.

Founded by Elizabeth Cracknell, the choir has been running for 17 years under the expert leadership of Ian Woods, performing their madrigals, folk songs, light pop, show tunes and inspirational music.

  • Tickets for Saturday cost £7.50, including wine and nibbles, and can be ordered from Helen and David Fatkin on 01904 795900 or in person at Cardland, the newsagents in Allerton Drive, Nether Poppleton, or on 01904 795036.
